Stop the madness!!!

Everyone who is tired of the Mets acting like a small market team in search of inexpensive solutions at critical positions, please raise your hand.

Now that we got that out of the way, why am I reading that Scott Podsednik may be too expensive an option as a 4th outfielder for the Mets? It's SCOTT PODSEDNIK!!! We're not talking about a $10 million/year player here. We are talking about a journeyman 4th outfielder who is worth no more than $3 million/year. I really can't believe my eyes when I read something like that. On the other hand, I'm relieved because I would like to give a youngster the chance when Carlos Beltran inevitably re-injures his knee (either one).

Sandy Alderson, while I agreed with the hire, is doing nothing to suggest the team is trying to compete this year. With an ace pitcher that is potentially out until the All-Star Break or worse, doing nothing to fortify the rotation means essentially waving the white flag on the 2011 season. Please Sandy, don't tell me you truly believe this team can compete. This is a .500 team if everyone stays healthy and has career years. With Ollie, Castillo, Beltran, and K-Rod coming off the books at the end of the year, there is absolutely no reason the Mets weren't in the hunt for a top free agent this year. I'm not even saying they should have signed someone. But at least be in the mix, which they weren't.
