Seems like last year?

By: Alan M Toppin Jr

It seems like last year? Say it ain't so. When the 2009 season was over, many Mets fans were discouraged, angry, heartbroken or like me, okay. It was a slow death last year so I was easily prepared. As each game passed, the number of games in the GB column rose so the inevitable feeling turned into more of a "can't wait" till the season is over. Although I was somewhat angry as well, ownership did their annual brainwash campaign and convinced me that injuries were more the problem than talent. For some reason, I believed them and said to myself, next year will be different.
So here we are, again. Carlos Beltran goes back and forth with ownership over and arthritic knee. Arthritis. Jose Reyes, is he or isn't he affected by a thyroid. Kelvin Escobar and his non gripping of a baseball, Frankie and pink eye, well that doesn't count but the injuries have to stop. The fact that their motto is rest and prevention just takes me back to last year. I sure hope ownership takes a long hard look and what goes on with the product on the field. I know it's more important to them to fill Citifield and have the highest payroll in the N.L. They are truly misguided but that's for another time.
The season starts in about a month but why does it seem like last year all over again?
