No offense, Citi Field, but I'm a creature of habit. I just might have to call you Shea Stadium for a little while longer.
Just as I mourned the loss of yet another chance at the World Series back in September, I've been mourning the loss of Shea. Poor Shea. One of the few remaining stadiums without a corporate endorsement. How I will miss you and the fluorescent figures that graced your outer walls!
I once knew a Mets fan who gave his newborn daughter Shea as a middle name. I am not prepared to give the name Citi to any of my future little ones, but then again, there's always some celebrity out there looking for a way to get their child beat up on the playground.
What's that, Citi Field? You say I'll love the roomier seats with more legroom? You don't know me! You say the exposed brick is supposed to be reminiscient of Ebbets Field? Sorry, wasn't born yet. You're talking to a girl for whom blue and orange is a fashion statement.
Sigh. I'll get over it eventually. But I wonder if we'll still call it Shea for years to come, just like stubborn Bostonians called the Fleet Center the Garden. (It's now TD Banknorth Garden, FYI.)
Citi Shea could work . . .
